LED Light Calculator (How Many Lights for a Room)

Enter the room size and what the room is used for; it works out the light needed and how many LED lights of each kind give it.

How it is worked out

Each room needs a level of light (lux). Lumens needed = lux x floor area in square metres, plus about a third more for light lost to walls and ceiling and as the lights age. The number of lights is the lumens needed divided by the light one fitting gives (an LED gives roughly 100 lumens per watt).

Lumens differ between makes; check the box. Dark walls or high ceilings need more light.
